Hummingbirds

Birds share the planet with us. From the flight of the mighty eagle to the tiniest chickadee, they inspire us to reach higher and soar. The most enchanting of all is the mystical, magical, beloved hummingbird. With their amazing feats of aerodynamics, hummingbirds seem more like faeries than birds. To be graced by their presence is truly a blessing. They are intricately interwoven with the beauty of flowers from which they extract nectar as their major food source. With their radiant colors, the hummers are associated with rainbows and precious gemstones. Simply thinking about them elevates our thoughts, opens our hearts and inspires our souls.

Author, Anthony William says to seek the hummingbird for “healing, enlightenment, connection to the Divine, spirituality, wisdom, compassion, knowledge, and understanding of your greater purpose. Hummingbirds are light workers. Every time you spot one, recognize it as a true and secret symbol of the Light. Witness it as a fairy spreading the holy light of the Angels. Let it purify your thoughts and intentions.” Author, Diana Cooper says that hummingbirds reflect the radiance of the archangels and they carry the wisdom of ancient Lemuria.

A few fun-filled facts about hummingbirds from Animal Speaks, by Ted Andrews. There are over 300 species. They are the most skillful flyers of all the birds, so much so that they don’t walk. They can fly backward, forward, sideways and even hover. They can quickly go from rest to high speed and back to instant stop. They can move their wings in a figure eight pattern, the symbol for infinity. Hummers are not afraid of any predators. They are master architects in designing and building their nests, each one being intricate and unique. They are “a symbol for accomplishing that which seems impossible. They will teach you how to find the miracle of joyful living in your own life.”

Hummingbirds take delight in our joy upon seeing them. It is an energetic nectar for them. They ask us to not fill our hummingbird feeders with sugar water. It is as harmful for them as it is for us. Perhaps apricot nectar would be a good alternative. Better yet is to plant flowers for them!
